The 64-year-old actor shared this significant personal news during an appearance on CNN's "The Story Is with Elex Michaelson." Accompanying him was his fiancée, fellow actress Erica Tazel, known for her role in 'Justified.' Andrews recounted that his diagnosis of the neurodegenerative disorder, which progressively impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, came in late fall of the previous year. He initially experienced symptoms such as pinched nerves and muscle twitching, which are recognized as common early indicators of ALS.

Andrews elaborated on the period leading up to his diagnosis, explaining that he initially attributed his symptoms to stress. He noted a stressful time during the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the SAG-AFTRA and Writer's Guild of America strikes in 2023, which led to a prolonged absence from work. During this time, he lost his health insurance, making it difficult to receive a proper and timely diagnosis for his condition. He recalled experiencing frequent pinched nerves, twitching, and an inability to perform routine tasks, such as holding cups, along with nocturnal sensations in his arms.

Within a quarter of an hour, his primary care physician referred him to a neurologist, which eventually led to his current diagnosis.
