Bentley Dealers Advocate for Off-Road Bentayga Production
Bentley is actively considering bringing its Bentayga X Concept, an enhanced off-road luxury SUV, to market following overwhelmingly positive feedback from its dealerships. The concept, first showcased in January, features substantial upgrades for challenging terrains and is viewed by Bentley's North American CEO, Mike Rocco, as a potentially exclusive offering with limited production. This move aligns with a growing trend among luxury automakers to develop high-performance, off-road capable SUVs, mirroring the success of models like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The Bentayga X Concept made its initial appearance at the close of January, immediately drawing attention for its significant enhancements designed for off-pavement driving. These modifications include a raised suspension system that provides an impressive 12.2 inches of ground clearance and allows for nearly two feet of water wading depth. Furthermore, the vehicle's track was broadened by five inches, contributing to improved stability and presence.
A standout visual element of the concept is its extended wheel arches, specifically crafted to accommodate striking 22-inch white wheels. The distinctive white color of these wheels has sparked anticipation, with many hoping it will be retained if the concept transitions into a production model. Under the hood, the Bentayga X Concept is powered by Bentley's robust twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering a formidable 641 horsepower.
The strong endorsement from dealers and the apparent feasibility of production suggest that an off-road variant of the Bentayga could materialize sooner rather than later. This strategic direction would position Bentley to compete in an increasingly popular segment, where luxury off-road SUVs are experiencing significant demand, as evidenced by the sustained success of competitors.
Bentley appears to be seriously evaluating the production feasibility of the X Concept, or a closely related model. This consideration is timely, as the demand for luxury crossovers and SUVs, particularly high-performance off-road variants, continues to surge. Several other premium manufacturers, including BMW, Audi, and Lincoln, are also exploring similar ventures, all aiming to capture a share of the market currently dominated by established icons like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which recently achieved record sales figures. The market's appetite for such sophisticated yet rugged vehicles presents a compelling opportunity for Bentley to expand its luxury portfolio.
