This was followed by the i3 sedan earlier this year, and the forthcoming launch of the 7 Series/i7 refresh. The latter half of the year will see the introduction of the next-generation X5 and a new 3 Series featuring internal combustion engines. Additionally, an M2 xDrive and an electric iX4 are anticipated to arrive by year-end. Looking further ahead to 2027, BMW plans to refresh the 5 Series/i5/M5 lines and introduce the second-generation X7, which will include an electric iX7 variant. There's also speculation of a new iX1 joining the Neue Klasse lineup as early as next year.

However, the current strategy reverses this, focusing on mainstream offerings to maximize the return on investment in the new platform.

These specialized "brand shapers" are expected to diverge significantly from BMW's traditional offerings. Speculation suggests the development of a dedicated sports car, particularly after the cancellation of the Vision M Next. A true successor to the mid-engined M1 supercar has been a long-awaited concept, though no concrete commitments have been made. Alternatively, a completely different type of vehicle could emerge, distinguished by its unique approach compared to BMW's conventional range. Reports indicate a growing likelihood of a rugged SUV, potentially launching by 2029. While it's not expected to feature a body-on-frame construction like the Mercedes G-Class, it is projected to offer enhanced off-road capabilities, surpassing any previous BMW model.

Embracing Off-Road Adventures: BMW's Potential Expansion into Rugged SUVs

Historically, BMW has not emphasized off-road vehicles, but this trend may be poised for a shift. Concurrently, Mercedes-Benz is reinforcing its G-Class strategy by developing a smaller variant, highlighting a clear market demand in this segment. Even without new "brand shapers" immediately, BMW's future product lineup promises continued excitement. An electric M3 is slated for release next year, with a six-cylinder M3 variant to follow in 2028. The recently unveiled 3 Series Touring hints at the possibility of high-performance M versions for long-roof models. Additionally, M Performance and full M variants are anticipated for the larger iX3, X5, and iX5. All Neue Klasse electric vehicles will feature either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, as the platform is not designed for single-motor, front-wheel-drive applications. This shift means electric versions of the 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe will abandon their current front-wheel-drive layouts. Furthermore, the Neue Klasse platform opens up possibilities for rear-wheel-drive MINI models, signaling significant innovations across the BMW Group. With Alpina now integrated as a standalone luxury brand positioned above BMW, the company can explore even higher market segments without encroaching on Rolls-Royce's territory.
