Embark Modifies Arc Raiders' Expedition Rewards, Introducing Paid Currency and Blueprints

by : Amy Hennig
Embark Studios continues to refine the player progression and reward system in its game, Arc Raiders, with significant changes introduced to the seasonal expeditions. These adjustments reflect an ongoing effort to balance veteran player rewards with new player engagement.

Transforming Progression: New Rewards for Persistent Raiders

Embark's Evolving Expedition Philosophy

The development team at Embark is consistently experimenting with how expeditions function within Arc Raiders, particularly concerning the impact of seasonal wipes. Each new season brings a fresh approach to incentives and rewards, indicating a dynamic development process focused on player experience.

The Shift in Expedition Rewards

A recent announcement from the studio details a complete overhaul of the primary rewards for completing expeditions. Instead of receiving permanent skill point bonuses, players will now earn a combination of premium in-game currency and valuable blueprints. This strategic change suggests a recognition that players value concrete, transferable assets more than incremental, permanent stat boosts.

Blueprint Focus: A New Incentive for Dedicated Players

Evidence suggests that blueprints hold greater appeal for players compared to minor performance enhancements. Under the updated system, successfully completing each departure objective guarantees players 150 Raider Tokens, a form of premium currency, and one blueprint. Crucially, these acquired blueprints will persist through seasonal wipes, allowing for long-term strategic planning and customization.

Valuable Blueprints: Enhancing Your Arsenal

With five departure objectives available, players can accumulate up to 750 Raider Tokens, equivalent to approximately $7 of in-game currency. This amount represents roughly half the cost of a standard store bundle in Arc Raiders. The blueprints obtainable are drawn from a diverse pool, including highly sought-after items for weapons, attachments, and augments, offering significant tactical advantages.

Dual Pathways to Blueprint Retention

Veteran players have noted that this is not the first method Embark has introduced for retaining blueprints across wipes. Players can also purchase up to five expedition vault slots from Ermal, which guarantee the preservation of any items stored within them. By combining the new challenge rewards with these vault slots, players can begin each new season with up to ten valuable blueprints, providing a considerable head start.

Addressing New Player Challenges and Future Outlook

While these changes benefit active participants, there's an acknowledgment of the challenges faced by newcomers who are just beginning their expedition journey. The current system, which requires sequential completion of seasonal expeditions, can create a sense of being perpetually behind. Embark has expressed its commitment to finding a more equitable balance, ensuring that both veteran and new players have rewarding and engaging paths forward. The studio promises further updates on how they plan to achieve this balance in future iterations.

Key Expedition Dates

The fourth expedition window is set to commence on July 7th at 1pm CEST/11am UTC/4am PT and will conclude on July 21st at 10am CEST/8am UTC/1am PT, providing a limited timeframe for players to engage with these new reward structures.
