Former Assistant Sues Howard Stern and Wife, Alleging Hostile Workplace and Seeking to Nullify NDAs
A former executive assistant for Howard Stern and his spouse, Beth Stern, has initiated legal proceedings to nullify the confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements she previously signed. The assistant, Leslie Kuhn, contends that these agreements, entered into during her four-year employment, restrict her ability to speak freely about her experiences. Her lawsuit further alleges that the Sterns maintained a hostile work environment and were involved in what she termed “questionable business operations.”
The amended complaint, submitted to the Supreme Court of New York, specifies a value exceeding $2.5 million to meet the Commercial Division's jurisdictional requirements. Kuhn’s filing seeks judicial intervention to declare the agreements unenforceable, asserting her right to open discourse. The problems, according to Kuhn’s initial filing, escalated after she took on the additional role of house manager at the Sterns' Southampton residence. She claims her subsequent termination in 2026, allegedly “for cause,” was a direct consequence of the “immense pressures” stemming from Beth’s Furry Friends, Beth Stern’s animal rescue organization, which Kuhn described as “massively disorganized” with “questionable business operations and accounting practices.”
Kuhn’s legal action focuses solely on voiding the contractual agreements rather than pursuing financial compensation. The Sterns have yet to respond publicly to the lawsuit, and their legal deadline for a response remains open. Howard, 72, and Beth, 53, married in 2008 and are prominent animal rescue advocates, with Beth founding Beth’s Furry Friends, a non-profit dedicated to feline welfare, in 2015. This case highlights the intricate balance between employer-employee agreements and an individual's right to free expression, particularly in the public eye.
This legal challenge underscores the importance of transparency and ethical conduct in all professional relationships. It serves as a reminder that individuals should feel empowered to voice concerns about their working conditions, and that organizations, regardless of their public standing, are accountable for maintaining a respectful and lawful environment for all employees. Upholding these principles is crucial for fostering integrity and justice in society.
