A Star's Return: Inspiring Graduates, Honoring Achievement
Jackman's Return to Ball State University for Graduation Ceremony
Celebrated performer Hugh Jackman is slated to speak at Ball State University's spring graduation ceremony on May 2nd. This significant event will see approximately 2,800 students from various degree programs gather to celebrate their academic achievements. In addition to delivering the commencement address, Jackman will be awarded an honorary arts degree by the university.
Previous Visit and Artistic Connections
This upcoming visit marks Jackman's second trip to the Ball State campus. His initial visit occurred last September when he accompanied his partner, Sutton Foster. Foster, a Broadway star, holds a teaching position within the university's theatre department, and Jackman had previously joined her during one of her instructional sessions. The couple famously shared the stage in the Broadway production of The Music Man before their relationship became public last year.
Screening of "Song Sung Blue" and University Endorsement
Prior to his commencement role, Jackman revisited Ball State in November to host a special screening of his film Song Sung Blue. This movie, penned and directed by Craig Brewer and inspired by a 2008 documentary by Greg Kohs, features Jackman alongside Kate Hudson as a duo performing in a Neil Diamond tribute band. Ball State president Geoffrey S. Mearns expressed his appreciation for Jackman's involvement, highlighting the actor's talent, versatility, and advocacy for the arts and humanities. Mearns conveyed his gratitude for Jackman's willingness to engage with the university community and anticipated an inspiring address for the Class of 2026.
