An Ambitious Slate of Forthcoming Projects

Serenade is launching with an ambitious roster of over a dozen projects already in various stages of development, production, or post-production. The narrative division includes titles like "Dave, Dave, Ruth & Dave," a collaboration between Alex Fischer and Rachel Wolther; "Here for the Weekend," the directorial debut of Jane Casey Modderno; and "Edge City," a unique hybrid Western from the Ross Brothers. The documentary arm boasts equally compelling projects, such as "Captions Will be Needed," the latest from two-time Sundance Best Director winner Natalia Almada; "Assata," a feature documentary about political activist Assata Shakur, directed by Giselle and Stephen Bailey; and "Blue Sweater With a Yellow Hole," a documentary by Ukrainian director Tetiana Khodakivska, which has received support from prestigious programs at Cannes, the Sundance Institute, and Berlinale. Additionally, Academy Award-nominated director Sam Green's live documentary "Trees," featuring a score by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, is in production and set for a world premiere at London's Barbican Centre, with plans for broader theatrical and streaming releases.

Beyond film production, Penn and Serenade are extending their expertise through a dedicated consulting wing. Their consulting efforts have played a crucial role in supporting films that have premiered at major festivals like Sundance and Cannes, and have even been shortlisted for Academy Awards. Before establishing Serenade, Penn spent a decade as the co-founder and CEO of The Department of Motion Pictures, where he produced or executive produced over 20 films. His work consistently gained recognition at top-tier festivals including Sundance, Telluride, and Cannes, leading to significant distribution deals with major players such as Netflix, Neon, Searchlight, and Paramount. Since 2012, Penn has premiered more than a dozen films at Sundance as a producer or executive producer, collectively earning six awards from the festival.
