Peacock Secures 'Dungeon Crawler Carl' TV Series with Seth MacFarlane and Chris Yost

Peacock has officially announced the development of a live-action series based on Matt Dinniman's acclaimed LitRPG novels, "Dungeon Crawler Carl." This exciting news follows Universal International Studios' initial acquisition of the rights in early 2025, with Peacock now securing the project as its home. The adaptation marks a significant step for the beloved book series into mainstream television.

The creative team behind the series is a strong one, with Chris Yost taking on the roles of writer and executive producer. Seth MacFarlane will also serve as an executive producer through his production company, Fuzzy Door, known for its expertise in both animated and live-action productions. Matt Dinniman, the original author, is also on board as an executive producer, ensuring the show remains true to the spirit of his books. Erica Huggins from Fuzzy Door joins as an executive producer, with Rachel Hargreaves-Heald overseeing production for the company.

The narrative of the series centers around Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, who finds himself thrust into a deadly intergalactic game show after an alien invasion decimates most of humanity. Survivors are compelled to participate in this sadistic spectacle, with Earth transformed into "Dungeon Crawler World." Carl's unwilling companion in this struggle for survival is Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend's pampered, tiara-wearing show cat. Together, they must navigate a world filled with monstrous creatures, extraterrestrial threats, a rogue AI, and other desperate survivors, all for the entertainment of an alien audience. The core premise emphasizes that while survival is optional, entertainment is mandatory. This unique and darkly humorous concept, coupled with the proven track record of MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door in special effects, addresses fan concerns about bringing the fantasy elements of the books to life in a live-action format.

The "Dungeon Crawler Carl" series on Peacock represents a thrilling new chapter for the popular book franchise. It highlights the growing appeal of LitRPG narratives and the potential for imaginative storytelling to captivate broader audiences. With a talented team at the helm, this adaptation promises to deliver an engaging and visually impressive experience that maintains the essence of Dinniman's original vision while reaching new viewers.
